An abdominoplasty (or tummy tuck) is a cosmetic operation to improve the appearance of your abdomen. The main reason for having an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is to remove the excess skin and fat on the front of the tummy while tightening the abdominal muscles.
It is common for the skin of the abdomen not to shrink back after pregnancy or if you have lost a lot of weight, causing loose skin to overhang. This can be uncomfortable with chafing and it can form an obvious bulge, making the wearing of certain styles of clothes embarrassing. You are most likely to benefit from an abdominoplasty/tummy tuck if you are self-conscious about what your abdomen looks like.
Graham Offer will carry out a detailed, personalised assessment to determine if a tummy tuck is right for you. The type of tummy tuck that you may need will depend on each individual’s specific circumstances. With a focus on safety, Graham performs many types of abdominoplasty surgery, including full, fleur-de-lis, lipoabdominoplasty, and extended abdominoplasties. The operation is performed under a general anaesthetic and usually takes between two and five hours. This patient is much more confident following her surgery and is very happy with the results.
A Full abdominoplasty. Here you can see the stretch marks that lie above the umbilicus have moved to a position below the umbilicus after the surgery. Graham has also hidden the umbilical scar within the umbilicus, so that it is less visible. Graham dislikes it when the umbilical scar lies around the umbilicus and is therefore obvious. Much more aesthetic to put it inside.
Pregnancy and some weight loss have left the skin on the tummy loose. The muscles have moved apart in the midline (Rectus divarication) and Graham has repaired this as well. Again, after Graham performed the procedure, the tummy is a lot flatter and tighter. The trade-off for the flatter tummy is a long scar which lies under the underwear. The scar around the umbilicus is visible but not obvious. If you click on the pictures it will bring up the side views. The tummy is much flatter and does not hang over the underwear. In this case, Graham has also tightened the abdominal wall which tends to act a bit like an internal corset.
The results of this surgery have been fantastic for this lady.
This patient lost a considerable amount of weight. The problems for the surgeon are that 1. there is no elasticity left in the skin and 2. there are still remaining deep fat pockets. Graham was able to remove all of the skin and fat between the black line drawn across the tummy and the pubic hair. In addition, liposuction to the dotted area above this, thinned out the fat layer. The result is much improved.
The result of this surgery are quite dramatic. The lady had a tummy that had been stretched by pregnancies. Graham removed a large amount of skin between the tummy button and the pubic hairline. This included the tattoo. Graham also tightened the abdominal wall, as the rectus muscles had separated (divarication). She was very pleased with the result. The scars are visible, if you look carefully, around the tummy button. Also by her left hip, where the underwear has slipped up a little.
The difference for this patient is amazing and the results are incredible, she is very happy.
This lady lost a considerable amount of weight. By extending the scar around the sides a little, Graham was able to remove most of the skin and fat between the tummy button and the pubic hair. This gave a much better contour. The scar is placed below the pant line. There is a small scar around the tummy button.
This lady has an ugly scar to the right side of her abdomen. The markings show the area of skin and fat that Graham is going to remove. This is between the tummy button and the pubic hairline. The circular area above the tummy button is to be liposuctioned. The result shows a flatter tummy. The trade off again is a long scar, which is just visible under the white pants.
A common preoperative look of a tummy post pregnancy. After the full abdominoplasty, you can see that the tummy is much tighter and flatter. The moles have moved down the tummy, closer to the underwear. The scar is under the underwear. Press to see side views. Side view shows how much flatter the tummy is. Graham has tightened the abdominal wall as part of the procedure.
This lady really hated the overhanging skin and fat of her tummy. Exercise and weight loss can improve the appearance of the tummy area, however when there is loose skin as in this case, then surgery is the only way to get a result like this. It is worth being at your target weight at the time of surgery (if you are losing weight). Since, if the patient loses a lot of weight after surgery, then the skin will become more loose again (but probably not to the pre-op extent). Graham performed a full abdominoplasty. The scar has settled very nicely around the tummy button (umbilicus).
The general shape has been much improved in this patient. The contour has been “brought in”. This enables her clothes to fit better.
A full abdominoplasty combined with Bodyjet liposuction. This is good technique when the fat is of different thicknesses over the front of the abdomen (tummy). The liposuction thins the fat pads down and then the abdominoplasty removes the excess overhanging skin, leaving the remaining skin tighter and the whole abdomen considerably flatter. Again, Graham has put the umbilical scar inside the umbilicus as it is then less noticeable. Nobody wants a visible “O” scar on the centre of the tummy when they are on the beach.
A full abdominoplasty, Bodyjet liposuction and Breast Augmentation. There are a number of patients who would like both breast and tummy surgery at the same operation. This is possible but we would need to discuss this as not all patients are suitable due to other factors such as medical conditions, etc
